Music

At Sir Francis Drake, children have lots of opportunities to be involved in music. Children sing every day, beginning with a whole school singing assembly at the start of each week. Every class has music lessons with a specialist music teacher at least once a week. Children learn to play a range of instruments within lessons, including whole class ukulele in Year 3 and djembe drumming in Year 4.

In KS2, children are given the opportunity to take up an extra instrument. Small group lessons are offered on clarinet, violin and guitar. Children can also learn the trumpet, cornet and baritone, and develop their ensemble skills in Deptford Junior Band.

Our KS2 choir rehearse after school and have regular opportunities to perform in and outside of school. This has included singing at ‘Totally Thames’ at the Scoop, City Hall, ‘The Turning of the Year’ concert at Blackheath Halls, and ‘Young Voices’ at the O2 arena.
